Who we are
Alastair is the owner and Managing Director of Westley Consulting Ltd which he jointly established in 2002. He has developed Westley into a well regarded specialist business and marketing consultancy with a strong client base of primarily SME food and rural sector businesses. He is also a non-executive director of a contract furniture business and of a “not for profit” care farming project.
Alastair is a very experienced senior level consultant, with board level industry experience and specialises in business strategy, problem solving and non-executive director services. He has led and participated in numerous projects and assignments for business and public sector clients including business improvement work (strategy, turnaround, business planning and support for leaders and senior managers), evaluations and marketing.
Prior to becoming a consultant in 2001, Alastair held senior positions in the potato industry. He became an executive director of Anglian Produce Ltd in 1995, and of Greenvale AP plc in 1999 (a £125m turnover company at that time), with responsibilities for processing, packing and trading activities. He has strong commercial skills and experience with a distinctive entrepreneurial and logical approach to strategic issues based on sound theory and “real world” experience.
Rick has worked across the public and private sectors for over 20 years delivering a wide range of projects and programmes. He is very experienced in working with businesses to become investment ready and in supporting them in securing funding and delivering major capital projects.
Rick has worked with businesses, funders and statuary agencies on programmes that have secured over £7 million of investment helping over 40 new and existing businesses in creating over 130 new jobs. This work has been across the food, tourism, manufacturing and service sectors.
Among some of the clients Rick has worked with are Singletons Cheese, Laythams Sheep Diary, Focus Training, Bowland Bioenergy Ltd, The Printed Cup Co. and Mettrick’s Butchers.
Rick has specialist knowledge in grant applications and compliance, procurement, project management, and business planning. He brings a positive and focused approach to delivering projects.
Building on his post grad qualification in management Rick is studying part time to complete his MBA.
Rachel, a senior consultant at Westley is highly experienced having successfully delivered many projects in the food sector and has particular strengths in retail and catering. After a very successful career at Bettys and Taylors where her last position was Operations Manager with responsibility for their cafes, retail shops and online/mail order operations, she worked briefly for the Yorkshire Agricultural Society setting up Fodder, their Farmshop and Cafe business in Harrogate, before deciding to move into consultancy.
Since becoming a consultant she has worked on a number of retail, online and catering projects, clients include a leading retail and catering butchers, Booths Supermarkets, Wensleydale Dairies, Bagel Nash and Thomas the Baker. Rachel also teaches at the Open University delivering their Introduction to Retailing and Marketing foundation course.
Rachel has a BA (hons) in Retail Marketing from Manchester University and her earlier experience was as a supermarket buyer for Sainsburys, Woolworths and finally Asda prior to joining Bettys and Taylors group in 1998.
